I Them sono stati un gruppo musicale rock dell'Irlanda del Nord, attivo negli anni sessanta e conosciuto per essere stato la band con cui ha debuttato il cantante Van Morrison.

Il successo di "Gloria"

Formatisi a nell'aprile 1964 a Belfast, sono conosciuti per il loro hit Gloria, uno dei maggiori successi incisi in quell'anno ed inserito nell'album discografico The Angry Young Them, inciso in numerose cover da diversi gruppi musicali o cantanti, fra cui Patti Smith, i Doors (contenuta in Gloria/Love Me Two Times, del 1973), Ted Nugent, e l'italiana Carmen Consoli.

Formazione

La formazione base dei Them vedeva come cantante e armonicista Van Morrison, Billy Harrison (vero nome William Harrison, 14 ottobre 1942, nativo della County Antrim) alla chitarra elettrica, Eric Wrixon al pianoforte e tastiere (fondò il gruppo ma non è mai apparso accreditato in alcun album né ha mai preso parte alle tournée dei Them negli USA), Alan Henderson (nato il 26 novembre 1944 a Belfast) al basso elettrico, Raymond Sweetman (vero nome Dermot Robert Sweetman, nato il 1º gennaio 1948 a Holyhead, Anglesey, Galles settentrionale) anch'esso al basso e Ronnie Millings (nato nel 1937 a Belfast) alla batteria.

Altri musicisti si sono poi alternati nel tempo all'interno della formazione. Henderson è stato l'unico a farne costantemente parte fino alla rottura sopraggiunta nel 1972 e alla riunificazione del 1979.
