Harry Partch
Harry Partch (Oakland, 24 giugno 1901 San Diego, 3 settembre 1974) è stato un compositore statunitense. Autodidatta per la composizione, è stato una delle personalità più individualiste e originali del Novecento.[1] La sua opera occupa un posto particolare nell'evoluzione della musica contemporanea, in particolare è molto rilevante per l'evoluzione della produzione timbrica del suono la sua attività di inventore e adattatore di strumenti musicali, creati utilizzando anche materie naturali o modificando strumenti preesistenti.[2] È inoltre considerato un importante precursore degli happening musicali.[3] Ha esercitato una notevole influenza anche in ambito rock, come testimoniano gli attestati di stima di artisti quali Tom Waits e Frank Zappa.[4]
