Ralph Alessi (born 1963[1] in San Francisco, California[2]) is a jazz trumpeter and composer originally from San Rafael, California, probably better known for being a member of bands led by saxophonist Steve Coleman. He has also performed with a host of others musicians, including Uri Caine, Ravi Coltrane, Fred Hersch and Don Byron, among others.[Ralph Alessi at All Music Guide] Alessi is also the founder and director of the School for Improvisational Music and is on faculty at New York University and New England Conservatory.
