Steve Robson

Steve Robson (born November 1969, Jarrow, Tyne and Wear) is an English songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist.

Career

Born in Jarrow in November 1969, he began playing piano at the age of four and went on to play violin, clarinet and saxophone. He began his adult career playing in covers bands and working mens clubs around the North East of England. He quickly moved into TV work engineering, programming and producing for shows such as Spender, Crocodile Shoes and The Riff Raff Element. He also produced the second Crocodile Shoes Album. Moving to London in his early twenties, he signed a publishing deal with Andy Heath at Momentum Music. He had his first hit in 1998 with a song called 123 for Dina Carroll. He was then involved in the formative years of Busted co-writing and producing their first album and is largely credited with their unique sound. Signing to Rondor Music in 1999 led to a hugely successful writing career on both sides of the Atlantic, also achieving success in Nashville resulting so far in 6 No1 singles and songs on 17 top 5 US albums.

He won BMI Song of the Year for his Rascal Flatts song What Hurts The Most which was also Grammy nominated and recognised by his peers by winning a Songs I Wish Id Written award. He won an Ivor Novello Award and a Brit Award for Shine written with and performed by Take That. He also co-wrote "Said It All" from The Circus album and the title track, "Beautiful World" from the first comeback album. He has recently co-written and produced singles on all 3 Olly Murs albums including "Troublemaker", "Please Dont Let Me Go", "Dance With Me Tonight" and "Thinking of Me". He has also written the title tracks on the last 2 albums, "In Case You Didnt Know" and "Right Place Right Time". He has co-written and produced tracks on both One Direction albums, "Everything About You", "Same Mistakes" and "Summer Love" from the new album, "Take Me Home". He co-wrote and produced the last James Blunt album, "Some Kind Of Trouble" and has written on all 3 James Morrison albums including the no.1 single "I Wont Let You Go" and "Pieces Dont Fit" and "Undiscovered" from the first album. He produced Run for Leona Lewis. Most recently he has co-written and produced the new Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton duet "Just A Fool" single from her Lotus album.

  • "What Hurts the Most"

Written by Steve Robson and Jeffrey Steele Recorded by Rascal Flatts on their Me and My Gang which has sold 5 million copies.[1] It became the seminal single from that album and was no 1 in US Billboard Hot Country Songs,[2] Hot Adult Contemporary and no 1 in Canada.[3] It was also no 6 in Billboard top 100 giving the band their first top 10 pop chart hit. It was Grammy nominated for Best Country Song in 2006[4] and has won pop and country ASCAP awards for top airplay.[5] It was also a massive no 1 ringtone download. Most recently, German dance group Cascada have covered the song making it no 1 in Billboard Hot Dance airplay and also released an album of remixes of the track.Words I Couldnt Say, a song also written by Steve Robson, features on this album.

  • "My Wish"

Was the 3rd single for Rascal Flatts from the Me and My Gang album and was another massive no 1 for them. It was another crossover hit for them and reached no 13 in the AC chart and 28 in the US hot 100.

Features on the Still Feels Good album by Rascal Flatts. It was the third single and another number one for them. The album has sold over 2 million units to date. "Secret Smile" (written by Steve Robson and Don Mescal) also features on this album.

Was recorded by Def Leppard for their X album. It was also recorded under the alternative title by Lionel Richie. It was no 11 in the US Billboard charts and the accompanying tour played to the bands strongest audience since Adrenalize.

  • "Shine"

Was the 2nd single from their comeback album, Beautiful World selling over 350,000 single units in the UK alone. It was a massive no 1 in both the UK airplay and sales charts. The song won a Brit award in 2008 for Best British Single[6] and an Ivor Novello award for PRS most performed work.[7] It has also been the subject an extensive advertising campaign with Morrison's supermarket. Lily Allen also used the melody of Shine in her hit Who'd Have Known which was performed by Lily Allen and Take That at the Children In Need concert at the Royal Albert Hall.[8] Steve also co-wrote the title track of the album, Beautiful World. The album has sold over 3 million units worldwide.

  • "Said It All"

Was the 3rd single from The Circus and a UK airplay no 1. Steve also co-wrote Hello and Julie from the same album. The album sold over 1 million copies in its first few weeks of release and has now sold over 4 million copies to date.

  • "Run"

Having performed this arrangement on Radio 1 Live Lounge in October 2007, Steve went on to produce the record and it became the fastest selling digital release of all time becoming a huge no 1 single for Leona Lewis.[9] It also propelled the repackaged Spirit album back to the No 1 album position and sold a further million units.

  • "Everybody Hurts"

Steve was asked by Simon Cowell to produce this cover of the R.E.M. song to raise money for the Haiti earthquake.[10] Vocals were produced by stars including Take That, James Blunt, Leona Lewis, Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Bublé, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Susan Boyle, Rod Stewart and JLS. The song sold 435,000 in its first week making it the fastest selling charity single of the 21st century in the UK.
