Styles P., de son vrai nom David Styles, (novembre 1974 28 (28-11-1974) (1985 ans) dans le Queens, New York ) est un rappeur américain, faisant partie des Ruff Ryders et du groupe The LOX avec Jadakiss et Sheek Louch, rebaptisé D-Block en 2001.
Carrière
Styles P. naît dans le Queens de parents afro-américains[1] et passe son enfance à Yonkers.
Styles P. commence à rapper avec ses amis d'enfance Jadakiss, Kasaan et Sheek Louch. Ils signent ensuite sur le label de Puff Daddy, Bad Boy Records, et y enregistrent des chansons avec lui et The Notorious B.I.G..
En 1998, The LOX sort l'album Money, Power & Respect. Styles P. mène ensuite le groupe dans sa quête de quitter Bad Boy Records. Une fois libérés de leur contrat, ils signent chez Interscope. Peu de temps après, un nouvel album du LOX sort ainsi que l'album solo de Jadakiss intitulé Kiss Tha Game Goodbye.
Styles P. sort en 2002 son premier album solo, A Gangster and a Gentleman. Le premier single extrait de cet album est la sombre chanson The Life, en collaboration avec Pharoahe Monch. La deuxième est une chanson dédiée à l'usage de la marijuana, Good Times (I Get High), une des chansons les plus entendues en 2002 aux États-Unis.
En 2003, Styles P. et Jadakiss apparaissent sur l'album Oz: The Soundtrack (bande originale de la série télévisée Oz) qui contenait une des chansons les plus dures sur la vie en prison, Some Niggas. Cette chanson a été l'une des plus mémorables de l'album.
En 2004, Styles P. sort sa mixtape Ghost Stories en nombre limité, à New York seulement. La mixtape se répand ensuite dans d'autres villes via Internet. Il apparaît cette même année au côté d'Akon dans la chanson Locked Up. La collaboration a ensuite continué avec Akon sur plusieurs featurings (Can You Believe It?, Blown Away, Watch Out...).
Fin 2007, Styles sort son quatrième album solo, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman) avec des grands noms de la production tels Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, The Alchemist, Swizz Beatz ainsi qu'Akon, Dame Grease, etc..
On constate que Styles aime lier ses albums les uns aux autres. Les titres ayant un rapport entre eux : A Gangster and a Gentleman (2002) et Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman) (2007) ; Time Is Money (2006) et Money Is Time (finalement abandonné).
