Kay Boutilier better known by her stage name, Kay, is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Born and raised on Cape Breton, the Reserve Mines native left the island after graduating from Holy Angels High School in 2003. A struggling artist, Kay eventually moved to Vancouver, B.C., and turned to the Internet to widen her audience and increase her chances of being discovered.[1][2] Her first music video released, for her debut single My Name Is Kay, turned into a YouTube sensation, with hits topping 330,000. The song also charted on the Canadian Hot 100, debuting at No. 80, and peaking at #63.[3][4][5]

She has opened for such artists as Hedley[6] and LMFAO.[7]

Career

2011present: My Name Is Kay

Kay's first single release, "My Name Is Kay", peaked at No. 63 on the Canadian Hot 100. The song was originally just meant to be a buzz single, to go along with a viral music video, but the song was soon picked up for radio airplay. The song was released onto iTunes as a double A-Side with "M.A.J.O.R.", on an EP on December 20, 2011. However, due to Kay's record label suggesting her name change, as simply searching 'Kay' drew many results, the EP was pulled from the digital music store.

"M.A.J.O.R." was set to be released as the Kay's first single, (as "My Name Is Kay" was originally just a buzz single), and a music video for the song was filmed in May 2010 for the song. However, no further single status has been noted, and the music video has yet to be released.

"Diddy Dum" is set to be My Name Is Kay's first official Canadian single, with a possible International release in the future, and a music video for the song released onto VEVO in February 2012.

Kay is featured on a single release by Cobra Starship, titled "#1Nite".[8]

She is also featured in Far East Movement's new album Dirty Bass on the track "Flossy."

It is now determined that Kay's new single is "Strangers" which features rapper Pusha T.

Kay released her first digital EP on December 20, 2011, as a double A-Side EP. However, after her label suggested a name change the EP was pulled from iTunes. On February 28, 2012, Kay released her first physical EP, as well as the digital release.

Collaborators for her forthcoming album include Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic.[9] After a number of delays, My Name Is Kay's debut album is set to be released in 2012.

Kay performed in her home town Glace Bay, NS in July 2012 and was quoted as being very intoxicated during her performance. Kay issued a public apology.
