About us
Radio Swiss Classic is a relaxing classical music station produced by SRG SSR. We play the most beautiful and popular works from the world of classical music – around the clock and uninterrupted by advertising. Our philosophy is not to talk about music, but to play it, so our presenters simply announce the title, the composer and the performer.
Switzerland's classical music station
To reflect the differing regional needs of its listeners even more closely, Radio Swiss Classic is now available in Switzerland's three national languages:
The Italian Radio Svizzera Classica is produced in collaboration with Rete Due.
Furthermore, Radio Swiss Classic makes a particular effort to promote performances by Swiss musicians. Radio Swiss Classic thus regularly features recordings of many ensembles and soloists from Switzerland alongside those of the world's most famous orchestras.
Our station format
Designing a radio station to satisfy the wishes of each and every listener is like trying to square a circle – and that applies all the more to music programming. In creating its schedule, Radio Swiss Classic therefore pays very close attention to audience research:
- Every one of our station's listeners can take part in the Radio Swiss Classic Music Jury, to which we present one track per day for personal evaluation by our audience.
- In addition, all of our listeners can assess each of the titles we play according to their taste via the playlist.
- What's more, Radio Swiss Classic conducts an annual audience survey, in which several thousand listeners participate every year. The results of the audience surveys are published on the website.
- And that's not all: Radio Swiss Classic also holds regular auditorium tests, in which several hundred pieces of music are circulated to a universe of around 120 classical music lovers for assessment.
The results of all of these listener survey feed directly into the Radio Swiss Classic schedule. As a result, Radio Swiss Classic offers a broad cross-section of the various ages and styles of classical music. Works of little-known composers are played side-by-side with those of the great masters such as Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and many more. Yet all of the works played on Radio Swiss Classic have one thing in common: they are selected with the greatest care and are perfect for relaxing, enjoying, and humming along to. Music that divides opinion, such as operas or organ compositions, as well as less popular styles such as spiritual or modern music, feature very little in the schedule.
